Tempus fugit - time flies. And this being true, our very own trees of the genus aesculus hippocastanum were already due again to not only shed their leaves ( that is generously, too, as always ), but also to let their all too pretty fruit allow gravity's way downwards. Albeit non-edible for us humans, they certainly do find their way into one or another adult city-dweller's pockets as little hand charmers, and children simply love them for play and handiwork stuff.
That is why all of us kept a sharp lookout underneath and around our chestnut trees for these small chestnut 'rascals' which tend to roll away and into the furthest of corners. Overall we heaped a respectable 5 kilogrammes into the wicker basket placed for this purpose at the company entrance. A local kindergarden happily received the harvest and now we wish all the children fun gallore at play and handiwork with the chestnuts.
On a different note, we sincerely hope that our chestnut trees specifically, and all other chestnut trees elsewhere in generic, stay healthy, albeit the ongoing climate change and the unfortunate ever spreading of the bacterium pseudomonas syringae which holds responsible for the decaying of many previously healthy chestnut trees in recent years.
